Rock, Paper, Scissors: Serendipitous Halloween Shenanigans

Posted on Posted in Uncategorized

It’s NaNoWriMo Eve! Or in more common parlance, Halloween!

Inspiration came knocking at my door tonight. Literally. It appeared in the form of three little girls. The trick-or-treating trio were dressed as “rock,” “paper,” and “scissors,” respectively.

“Adorable and clever,” thought I. “Great metaphor for a tightly knit group with a constant undertone of competitiveness.”

Mulling it further, it became clear to me that the Great and Mighty Spirit of Creativity had dropped these characters on my porch as a gift. Therefore, these unwitting kids are going to be characters in this year’s NaNoWriMo project. And to think I got them for the low, low price of a handful of candy bars. Fittingly, said candies were Three Musketeers (no joke — they really were).

So, you heard it here first, folks. If you read a blockbuster MG novel a few years from now that features a trio of frenemies who go trick-or-treating as rock, paper, and scissors, you’ll know where it all started. My porch.

The clock is ticking. It’s 9:15 p.m. on October 31st, 2016. Let the madness begin (in 165 minutes)!

Onward!
